Using Journal Files

  Notepad creates a journal file containing a record of all edits
  performed during an editing session.  If an editing session
  ends because of a system failure, the Notepad editor saves the
  journal file.

  When you attempt to edit a file that has an associated journal
  file, the Notepad editor displays a dialog box asking whether
  you want the previous edits restored.  Click on the Yes button
  to perform the recovery.  Click on the No button to delete the
  old journal file.

  If your editing session is interrupted before you create a file
  the Notepad editor saves your keystrokes in a journal file and
  assigns the untitled buffer a file name.  To recover the editing
  session:

  1.  Choose Open...  from the File menu.

  2.  Select the journal file you want to recover.  A dialog box is
      displayed.

  3.  Click on the Yes button.
