The Browser does not3 display child pointers, but does display the child6 directories they represent, indented from the parent.2 Group =TITLE Group =TITLE Group=INCLUDE overview filter=KEYWORD group3 A group is a class of object entries that lets you5 associate, or manage as a group, a set of names that7 have something in common. A group maps a specific name3 (the group name) into a set of names, denoting the group members.7 The icon associated with groups in the Browser display8 is a hexagon with four addition signs within its dotted borders.2 Icons =TITLE Icons=TITLE Browser Icons=INCLUDE overview filter=INCLUDE glossary directory=INCLUDE glossary object_entry=INCLUDE glossary soft_link=KEYWORD icons6 Icons are symbols associated with directories, object entries, and soft links.5 Many object entries have unique icons based on their5 class; the class indicates the type of resource that) the icon represents, for example, nodes. 2 Namespace=TITLE Namespace=TITLE Namespace=INCLUDE overview display_ns=INCLUDE overview navigate_ns%=INCLUDE overview customize virt_root=KEYWORD namespace6 A namespace is a complete set of DCE cds names (these2 can include directories, object entries, and soft9 links) that one or more DCE cds servers look up, manage, and share.4 The logical picture of a namespace is a hierarchial0 tree of all of those directories, with the root4 directory (named "/.:") at the top, and one or more5 levels of directories, object entries and soft links beneath the root.1 Use the Browser to display this logical picture.2 object_entry=TITLE object_entry=TITLE Object Entry=INCLUDE overview filter=KEYWORD object0 An object entry is the name of a resource (such2 as node, disk, or application) and its associated" attributes, as stored by DCE cds.8 The generic object icon associated with an object entry8 in the Browser display is a cube with shaded sides. The6 Browser displays this icon when it does not recognize8 the class of an object. Otherwise, it displays a class-2 specific icon. Special icons exist for nodes, for example.4 You can use the Filters menu to selectively display6 only objects of a specific class. You can filter only2 one object class at a time. To change the filter,* choose a new class from the Filters menu.2 Root =TITLE Root =TITLE Root%=INCLUDE overview customize virt_root=INCLUDE glossary directory=INCLUDE glossary namespace=INCLUDE glossary virtual_root =KEYWORD root6 The root is the top directory in the namespace. It is designated by a "/.:".5 The logical picture of a namespace is a hierarchical5 tree of all the directories in a namespace, with the5 root directory at the top, and one or more levels of directories beneath the root. 2 soft_link=TITLE soft_link=TITLE Soft Link=INCLUDE glossary directory=INCLUDE glossary namespace=INCLUDE glossary object_entry =KEYWORD link4 A soft link is a pointer that provides an alternate8 name for an object entry, directory, or other soft link in the namespace.6 The icon associated with the soft link in the Browser0 display is a cube with an arrow across its top.2 Tree =TITLE Tree =TITLE Tree#=INCLUDE overview view ch_treestyle-=INCLUDE overview navigate_ns navigate_window =KEYWORD tree4 A tree is a hierarchical structure of data in which6 each element may be related to any number of elements5 at the level below it, but to only one element above it.2 Virtual_root=TITLE Virtual_root=TITLE Virtual Root%=INCLUDE overview customize virt_root=INCLUDE glossary directory=INCLUDE glossary root=INCLUDE overview navigate_ns=INCLUDE overview display_ns=KEYWORD virtual5 A virtual root is a directory other than the root at3 which you want the Browser to start displaying the3 namespace. You can use the Browser to do the following:6 - Monitor the size and number of directories in your namespace./ - View the object entries and soft links in a directory.4 - Set a filter to display only object entries of a particular class.5 - Specify a virtual root - a point below the actual5 root directory at which you want to start viewing the namespace.3 Each item in the window represents an entry in the4 namespace. When you expand a directory, you see the5 soft links and object e ntries to which you have read8 access. You also see all child directories, but you can6 expand only those child directories to which you have read access.5 Directories, object entries, and soft links all have5 icons associated with them. Most object entries have7 unique icons based on their class; the class indicates6 the type of resource that the object entry represents (for example, nodes).3 You can see only those entries in the namespace to5 which you have read access; any other entries do not appear.4 For information about using DCE cds Browser, double4 click on an item from the list of additional topics below.4 For information about using help, choose Using Help from the title bar above.2 file =TITLE file=TITLE File Menu,=INCLUDE overview display_ns expand_sel_dirs.=INCLUDE overview display_ns collapse_sel_dirs=INCLUDE overview exiting =KEYWORD file8 Use the File menu to expand or collapse all directories or to exit the Browser.5 Choose the Expand All option to open all directories7 on all levels at once. The larger a namespace, the longer it takes to display its entire contents.4 For information about other ways to expand a single5 directory or selected groups of directories, see the& Help topic, Displaying the Namespace.3 collapse_all=TITLE collapse_all!=TITLE Collapsing All Directories.=INCLUDE overview display_ns collapse_sel_dirs!=INCLUDE overview file expand_all,=INCLUDE overview display_ns expand_sel_dirs3 Choose Collapse All from the File menu to close an5 expanded namespace. You can filter only one object class4 at a time. To change the filter, choose a new class from the Filters menu.6 Setting a filter does not affect the current display,3 but when you next expand a directory, you see only4 object entries whose class matches the filter. Note5 that soft links and directories still appear because) only object entries can be filtered out.3 To reset the filter so that you can again view all8 object entries, choose the asterisk(*) from the Filters menu.2 view =TITLE view=TITLE View Menu =KEYWORD view0 Use the View menu to choose between formats for4 displaying the namespace or to choose a tree style.6 The Browser provides two basic formats for displaying4 the namespace: outline and tree.
